Relationships to Avoid

Whilst some relationships may be merely tricky (such as long-distance love or dating a colleague at work), there are some that can be positively damaging to your friendships, your self-esteem, your emotions or even to your health. These include abusive partners, commitment-phobes and those who are married or involved with someone else.

Unfortunately, it's often the case that we get so caught up in the relationship that by the time we realise that it's inappropriate or unhealthy it's too late to be objective and make any sort of rational decision about it.

However, what may not be immediately obvious to you will often be picked up by your closest friends; even if you don't agree with them at the time, taking time to listen to their concerns may help you look at your new relationship in an objective way, which could save you a great deal of trouble and heartache further down the line.

In this section, we take a closer look at some of these dangerous relationships, and offer some helpful tips and advice on how to handle them.
