A Typical Speed Date

Speed dating is based on the key ingredients for attraction and chemistry - voice, humour and looks.
A typical evening will run as follows:
- Anything from 10 to 30 women and men meet at an agreed location.
- You are each given a card to keep track of the people that you meet and to mark down whether you would like to meet with them again.
- You are paired off at tables for two and given approximately 3 minutes to chat and get to know each other.
- After the time is up, a signal is made. If you're a man, you must move to the next table; if you're a woman you remain seated and wait for the next man to join you.
- You both discreetly mark your card as to whether you'd like to see each other again.
- This process repeats until all the couples have met each other.
- You then hand your card in and if two of you have both 'ticked' each other, email addresses will be swapped care of the organisers and further contact can be made.
There's usually a chance to relax and mingle at the end of the evening.
We asked our readers whether they believed in love at first sight. Here's how they responded ...
74% - Yes!
21% - No way!
5% - Hmm - not sure ...
What more could you ask for in a night out than to meet up to 30 potential partners in under 2 hours, more than you would dream of in a month, never mind in one evening? Past events have reported high success rates with two thirds of the singles getting a proper date from each event, far higher odds than a bar or club.
If nothing else, it's a fun night out, and you never know, you might just end up meeting your perfect match!
