Speed Dating Tips

If you're thinking about taking the plunge and attending a speed dating evening, make sure that you take a look through these handy hints and tips before you go.

    • Feel positive about yourself and others will feel positive about you.
    • Girls - always welcome your date to your table, it will make him feel at ease.
    • Everyone has something great about them, notice that and compliment them genuinely.
    • Hold your head up and make eye contact. It shows openness and confidence.
    • Smile - always a great start and a good icebreaker.
    • Participants often fall back on the line "What do you do for a living?" Not everyone is doing work they love and the question may put them on the spot. Asking them what they enjoy doing in their life will allow you to find out more about what makes them tick.

It's almost inevitable that some of the people you meet will not be right for you, but remember that they still deserve your courtesy and respect. They've paid to meet you too!

    • Try an unusual question. "What would your best friend say if they knew you were here?" It's a lot better than the "where do you live?" or "what do you do for a living?" (a no-no in itself, as mentioned above) that they've heard several times already. It also shows that you have a sense of humour.
    • Find out about them - after all people generally enjoy talking about themselves and feel flattered when someone shows an interest in them.
    • One of the most frequent mistakes people make is that they dominate a conversation - remember, it's not all about you!
    • Don't give out any personal details, such as your last name, telephone number or email address. If you've both ticked each other on your lists, the organisers will make sure you both have everything you need in order to catch up again.
