The people you will be meeting during the speed dating event will also be meeting many other potential dates, and so it's important to stand out from the crowd, and to make sure that you can demonstrate your personality.

It's a good idea to ask your dates something a little different from the run-of-the-mill 'So what do you do for a living?' type of question. Here are some ideas:

• What is your earliest childhood memory?
• What's your favourite word?
• If money wasn't an issue, what would you do with your time or where would you go?
• What were your favourite cartoons?
• If you couldn't do what you are doing for a living, what else would you do?
• If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
• If you could be someone else for a day, who would you be?
• If you could interview anyone living or dead, who would it be?
• They say Alexander the Great kept a dagger and a copy of the Iliad under his pillow. What would be under your pillow?
• What place do you want to visit most?
• What would be on the soundtrack to your life?
• What would be the title of your biography?
• What would you put in a time capsule that someone might unearth in 100 years?
• What's in the boot of your car at the moment? (Hopefully the answer won't be:"My ex"!)
