Confidence Secrets

The Secret to Being Confident

Although it may appear that self-confident people seem to thrive in any situation, however strange or new, they may not actually be confident all of the time. Just like the rest of us, they can lose confidence when they go through a bad experience, such as losing their job or being dumped; however, the difference is that they are often able to recover from these setbacks much faster than someone who lacks confidence in themselves.

Key Characteristics

Confident people tend to share a number of major characteristics; if you feel you need to work on your confidence, try adopting some of these principles and see if they work for you:

  • Believe that life is what you make it and anything's possible within reason.
  • Learn from your mistakes, move on and don't dwell on the past.
  • Understand and feel comfortable with your own individuality.
  • Be optimistic and believe that the glass is half-full rather than half-empty.
  • Take up as many new social opportunities as possible.
  • Be in control of your life rather than letting life control you.
  • Have realistic expectations about life; although it may not be perfect, make the best of it.
  • Be willing to take risks, knowing that even if you're wrong the results will provide you with an understanding of future risks.
  • Have a good understanding of how you can look and be your best to feel good about yourself.
  • Get rid of emotional baggage as soon as possible and move on without pre-conceived ideas.
  • Be adept at both giving and receiving compliments.

Confidence is not the same as arrogance; it's simply having a knowledge of who you are and being happy and secure in that knowledge.
