Flirting Dos & Don'ts

Flirting Dos & Don'ts

If you've read up on the top flirting techniques, and are ready to get out there and give your new-found skills a go, there are a few things should to remember before you get started:

Do:

  • It's important that you learn to like yourself so that you can learn to accept compliments with grace and without putting yourself down. Check out the sections on confidence and self-esteem foe some great tips and advice.
  • Show that you're optimistic; try to think of the positive things in your life, not the negative.
  • Maintain playful eye contact.
  • Practise smiling and paying compliments to people.
  • Accept that not everyone is going to like you and you experience some knockbacks along the way. Don't feel defeated though - just hold your head up high and move on. Remember that we all make mistakes, and flirting, just like any other skill, takes time and practise to perfect.

When using flirting techniques, you will probably find that some are more successful than others; however, don't give up if you don't get immediate results. Keep practicing and learn what works best for you.

Don't:

  • Be too keen, too fast. It's off-putting and reeks of desperation.
  • Stare unblinkingly when maintaining eye contact.
  • Invade someone's personal space - by all means lean in a little, but not so far that they feel trapped.
  • Look over their shoulder when talking.
  • Act miserable, bored, ditzy or snooty.
  • Be sarcastic or rude - it's not attractive.
  • Don't ignore any negative body language signals - if they're not interested, just move on.
