Positive Body Language Signs

If you know some of the positive body language signs that people display, you will soon be able to recognise the signals that someone is interested in you. You can also use them to indicate that you are interested in THEM, without even having to say a word! Although many of the body language signals are common to both sexes, some are specifically used by either men or women.

Common Attraction Signals

Some of the most common gestures of attraction are:

  • Lingering eye contact
  • Looking around the room, and then allowing the gaze to settle on the 'chosen' one
  • Dilation of pupils
  • Smoothing of hair or clothes
  • Mirroring the other person's body language
  • Running fingers through hair
  • Rapid blinking
  • Head tilting to one side
  • Smiling widely, teeth showing
  • Leaning in towards or moving closer to the other person
  • Touching
  • Undivided attention and focus
  • Raising or lowering the tone and speed of voice to match the other person

Signals Displayed by Women

  • Pushing back long sleeves to expose the softer skin on their arms and wrists
  • Flicking their hair or twirling it around their fingers
  • Crossing their legs towards the object of their desire
  • Playing with jewellery - especially stroking a necklace
  • Licking their lips and showing the tip of their tongue
  • Letting a shoe partly slip off their foot and dangling it
  • Slowly crossing and uncrossing their legs
  • Rubbing a foot against the table leg
  • Stroking the stem of a wine glass or rubbing a pen

Signals Displayed by Men

  • Standing or sitting with their legs apart
  • Moving between the person they are attracted to and everybody else. This is used to create a more intimate space, claim their territory and block other potential rivals.
  • Standing with their hands on their hips
  • Tucking one or both thumbs into their belt or belt loops, with their hands pointing towards their genitals
  • Playing with or touching their earlobes
